Encompass has been formally invited to submit a lottery funding application for Phase Two of the Teacher Training Approach.
This programme will support Encompass in enhancing the delivery of physical education in secondary schools through developing bespoke and relevant professional development for staff working on PE and sport. This comes on the back of insight gathered by Sport England, highlighting variable experiences in Physical Education and sport in school for young people; while some have an enjoyable experience, others are not enjoying it. This negative experience is impacting on their adult lives, behaviours and habits. We know that having a positive attitude towards physical activity is critical for children and young people’s lifelong participation in sport and physical activity and, addressing this now, will help to tackle the decline in young peoples’ mental and physical well-being.
Sport England is investing up to £13.5 million of lottery funding to help secondary schools foster a more positive attitude towards sport and physical activity in their pupils. Encompass will receive £3,350 for each school involved.
Our application includes the secondary schools of Hartismere, Benjamin Britten, Diss, Debenham, Thomas Mills, Stowmarket, Stowupland, Alde Valley, Bungay, Sir John Leman, Ormiston Denes, East Point, Pakefield, Beccles (Free) and Saxmundham (Free). With a decision likely by 1 February, we are hopeful of funding being released to cover February 2019-April 2020.
